Summary

​

The African Chamber of Commerce Colorado is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to fill the role of Director of Development. This position will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing all fundraising initiatives for the Chamber, with a focus on grant writing and grants management, federal compliance, corporate giving, donor development, and strategic partnerships. The Director of Development will play a crucial role in expanding the organization's resources and ensuring its long-term sustainability.

The ideal candidate is excellent at building and strengthening relationships and has experience as an entrepreneur/business owner or working with small businesses. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with values-driven business owners, stakeholders, grantors, and community organizations, and advance initiatives aimed at building a prosperous economy and equitable communities.

Description

​

Reports to: President of the Chamber

Job Type: 1099 Independent Contractor

Hours: 25-40 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $45-$60 per hour depending on qualifications and experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy that aligns with the Chamber's mission, vision, and goals.

  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other potential funding sources.

  • Conduct prospect research to identify new funding opportunities and maintain a pipeline of potential donors.

  • Prepare and submit compelling grant proposals and applications to secure funding from foundations, government agencies, and other grant-making entities.

  • Ensure organizational compliance with all grantors including federal, state, county, city, and foundations. 

  • Collaborate with the President and Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies for donor retention and recognition.

  • Plan and oversee fundraising events, receptions, and networking opportunities, to engage donors and promote the Chamber's mission.

  • Develop and manage fundraising and membership campaigns, including online fundraising platforms and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.

  • Collaborate with staff to create fundraising materials, including case statements, annual reports, and donor communications.

  • Recruiting and training fundraising staff, volunteers, and the Board. 

  • Monitor and track fundraising progress, including revenue projections, donor acquisition, and retention rates, and provide regular reports to the President and Board of Directors.

  • Research and stay updated on current fundraising trends, best practices, and emerging strategies in the nonprofit sector.

  • Represent the Chamber at professional networking events, conferences, and community engagements to build relationships and raise the organization's profile.

 

Qualifications

​

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a proven track record of securing major gifts, grants and sponsorships, and maintaining grant compliance..

  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles and best practices, including donor cultivation, grant writing, event management, and donor stewardship.

  • Familiarity with local, regional, and national funding sources, foundations, and grant-making entities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling grant proposals, fundraising appeals, and donor communications.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including individual donors, corporate sponsors, and community leaders.

  • Experience managing fundraising campaigns, including online platforms and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.

  • Proficient in using fundraising software and databases to track donor information, donations, and fundraising progress.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the African business community and a commitment to promoting economic development and empowerment.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with a positive and professional attitude.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as required to attend fundraising events and meetings.
